Kindergarten and 1st grade PE

Welcome Parents!

We are having so much fun in PE! These students are quick learners. They love playing the games and learning new skills. So far in class we have went on a road trip where we learned about our personal space or personal bubble by using hoola hoops. Along with the road trip the students have been practicing their locomotor skills. Skipping, running, jogging, power walk, sliding, leaping, hopping, jumping, and galloping are all the locomotors they have been working on. If your child brought home a sheet to work on a few skills, please practice with them. We will also continue working on these all year. Keep up the good work!

Since the students have a grasp on most of their locomotors, we are able to move on and play Mr. Fox! This is a tag game that helps them with counting, telling time, and gets their locomotor practice all at the same time.

I cannot wait to move on to other skills with them!

We have since moved on to soccer skills, such as kicking, passing, dribbling, trapping and playing a game. It is pretty entertaining watching these little ones play soccer. Ask you child if they would like to play a game of soccer with you at home! ;)

This week we are getting your child to be able to throw with the correct hand and step with their opposite foot. I call this sticker hand and sticker foot. As they step, I say tick, tag, tock for the overhand throw, just as a verbal cue. We will start by tossing underhand and then throwing overhand, as well as catching the beanbag or ball. Please practice these skills at home with them as well. It is always fun to get outside and play with your child.
