Illinois Science Assessment - Testing for 5th grade will be on:
April 14, April 15, and April 16 (M, T, W next week)
Each test will be administered during Science class. There will be no other work or assignments until Thursday, April 17.
Be sure to get a good night's rest, eat a balanced breakfast , and be at school all three days!
Thank you, Mr. Earls
We are almost done!
We have made derby cars, studied the stars, throw eggs using gravity (and a catapult), rediscovered America during the Colonial Period, learned about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln!
It has been a busy year, but we aren't done yet.
Still to come in Science, we learn more about matter and energy and then go back to life science to build and monitor terrariums. We will need some clear 2-liter bottles for this project. If you use 2-liter colas, rinse the bottles and send them in for us!
Still to come in Social Studies, we are finishing up our Abe Lincoln Unit which will culminate with our trip to Springfield at the end of April. We end the year with a look at one of the most prominent Civil Rights proponents, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students will explore his life and learn about his non-violent fight for racial equality. We end the MLK Unit with a research paper similar to the ones we did on the Founding Fathers at the beginning of the year.
Additionally, ELA and Social Studies do cross-curricular work on the Wax Museum Project. Each student learns about one historical figure and then presents them to the community during our Wax Museum day in May. Be sure to get grandparents and other interested relatives to save the date! Ms. Meyer will send out a note and put it on Dojo soon.
Have a great rest of the best school year ever! 2024-2025 - Mr. Earls
Welcome to the new 2024-2025 School year!
We will be doing a ton of activities in both Science and Social Studies. Occasionally, we need some supplies. I will send home notes asking for your help. If we can have a few donations, I will make sure EVERY STUDENT gets what he/she needs to work with the group.
Thank you in advance for any supplies you are able to donate!
LOOK BELOW FOR MY DERBY CAR! The kids will make one for our first science project.
Mr. Earls

I am looking forward to a great year as your Science and Social Studies 5th Grade Teacher.
