Seven Central High School students were recently selected to participate in the Illinois Music Education Association’s District 3 Concert Festival. The concert festival will take place Saturday, November 9 at Olivet Nazarene University.
Band
Junior Dante Mumper is a first-time selection to the band. Dante is the son of Greg and Angella Mumper of Clifton and plays the saxophone and tuba. He’ll be playing the tuba for this event.
Choir
Seniors Daniel Easter and Lilian Unger are first-time selections to the choir. Easter is the son of Clarence and Barb Easter of Clifton and sings tenor. Unger is the daughter of Shawn and Nora Unger of Chebanse and sings soprano.
Ben Kuipers, Sammy Perzee and Anna Winkel are second-time selections to the choir. Kuipers is the son of John and Michelle Kuipers of Clifton and sings bass. Perzee is the daughter of Derek and Amanda Perzee of Chebanse and sings slto. Winkel is the daughter of Andrew and Milissa Winkel of Clifton and sings alto.
Sophomore Adalynn Skeen is a first-time selection to the choir. She is the daughter of Chris Skeen of Chebanse and Taryn Skeen. Addie sings alto.
Selection to the district groups was made through a submitted audition. District 3 covers 10 counties: Champaign, De Witt, Ford, Iroquois, Kankakee, Livingston McLean, Piatt, Vermilion, and Woodford.
Students who are selected and participate in the district concert have their auditions automatically submitted for the ILMEA State Music Festival, which occurs in January.
Central has had at least one member selected for the state music festival for the previous three years. Central’s band is directed by Renee Pendry. Central’s choir is directed by Maggie Prendergast. Both are assisted by Kelly Gifford.
